A note from Annie's: if the winners want to add on plants, they can get up to 8 plants with free shipping (that is how many fit in one box). They are welcome to add more than 8 of course, but we would have to charge them for the second box ($13.95 CA, WA, OR, NV, AZ, UT and $28.95 all other states). Annie's only ships to the continental U.S.

Hi Jeannie- I was excited to see the Watsonia's that Annie's offers- I just bought my first one this summer, and cant figure out why I didnt add them sooner! Drought resistant and full sun- totally my style!

The double brugmansia is gorgeous! I also saw a begonia that I can't believe is a begonia. It had leaves that looked like palm fronds.
What a great contest! I found out about it from Carri. I'm so glad Iris foetidissima was in the plants of the month -- I had *completely* forgotten about this old standby.
Delosperma nubigenum groundcover would solve a lot of problems in my dry, deer-hosting garden!
Love Annies & always salivate when I get the emails. The plants of the month are great because they usually highlight some really cool plants and then typically at least one native. We just bought our first house and I can't wait to start planning the landscape! I want to stick with mostly natives, but some tropicals might make their way in too, since they're just too beautiful & fun!
The WPA Rock Garden at William Land Park was the first place I saw Angel's Trumpets (brugs)...some sticking skyward, most down, purples and whites, some double. Great place for living botanical variety.
Hallo Jeannie!Wow, many pretty choices there. The Sticky Monkey flower is simply gorgeous - love the raspberry color :) It's also way cool to see one of the wild Brugs.
Cool plants, the double white Brugmansia has always been a favorite of mine, but the Canna 'Paprika' is new to me and a stunner!!!!
Framy says that : I didn't see any edible plants in this contest, and although I will help someone else with there non food plants I MUCH prefer to spend energy on food producing plant buddies. I liked the one with the white flower from the "contest" choices.. Framy aka(Ken Framsted)

It's always great to hear from you, you have such great ideas and energy. After I looked at plants of the month I almost ran to my truck to race down to Annie's!!! I love succulents and get a lot of them from Annie's. I'm already visualizing the various setting I'll be planting the Delosperma nubigenum!! I may still get over to Annie's today since I'm in Richmond.
Canna 'Paprika' is a beautiful flower, I just wish is really was Paprika.
I love the Canna Paprika! The colors are amaaaazing. I just wish that I had some dirt to put it in, as I'm pretty sure none of these plants would thrive in my living room.

Hey Jeannie! I think the pink color of the Mimulus x aurantiacus 'Cherry' is a really pretty color! (Though I'm not a big pink person, I think I would make an exception!) The other plants are really pretty too!!
*waves* The white Brugmansia is beautiful! It looks so much like Datura; I'd scare my neighbors except the size is off- it's longer than a hand. That's amazing! Do they produce spiky pods like Datura, only giant-sized? Wish they weren't toxic. ;) demidespres (at) hotmail.com

Very cool plants!
I'm particularly interested in the ground cover. I don't have a deer problem, but, as you know, I have a cat problem — namely that they like to use my various ground covers for a nice cushy area to do their business. They've destroyed my dianthus and my lemon thyme. So I'm kind of looking for something that is drought tolerant, evergreen, and, oh shall we say, not really the cat's meow to cats.
All the flowers are lovely. I'd love to get more color outside.
It's really nice to learn more about what's available.

Hi Jeannie, I loved the photos on Annie's website & the fact they have a lot of drought tolerant plants. Can I grow Brugs in Orangevale? I get hard frosts every winter.

Hey Margie...according to the Sunset Western Garden Book, Brugs aren't listed for us. However, I saw a large established one a couple of years ago in Orangevale and some beauties at the Rock Garden in Wm Land Park. Sunset says in colder areas expect frost damage and unattractive winter appearance, before spring growth starts, remove all weak, dead & crowded stems. Can be overwintered indoors with low light & very little water.
Canna 'Paprika' is a stunner, but I had to laugh when I saw "Drought Tolerant?". My poor cannas have had record rainfall this year, but no sun or heat. They're still only about 2' tall and holding steady.
I'm so glad you emailed me because I was being so silly thinking that I wouldn't be able to grow these plants on the east coast. Containers! Where was my mind?!
I have always loved Angel's Trumpet and I would loooooooove to have a double like 'Double White.' Oooooooo I hope I win . . . .
